ALLOCATION OF INDUSTRIAL TRAINING SLOTS TO VARIOUS ENGINEERING COLLEGES OF HARYANA By R. K. Handu,Industrial

Abstract
In the present work, an attempt has been made to accomplish the task of providing summer training to under graduate engineering students at minimum cost. The primary data about the number of colleges, number of students in various streams of Haryana state and the number of industries willing or in a position to provide the training has been identified. The number of summer training slots unavailable has been identified and termed as dummy resource. The suggestions have been made to convert the dummy resource into tangible real resource.
Transportation model has been used to allocate the available resource to fulfil the demand with a view to minimize the transportation cost of ferrying the students from their colleges (assumed as Homes) to the places of training. To solve this problem a cost matrix of 48x41 size was developed and TORA software has been used. The feasible solution by Vogel’s approximation method has been improved upon from Rs.57520 to Rs.20612 after 85 iterations, using modified distribution (u-v) method.
